December 28, 2025
MONSTA X's Jooheon has unveiled the first concept photo for the group's mini 2nd album, 光(INSANITY), signaling a full-fledged comeback. According to multiple outlets, Jooheon transformed into a boxer on the ring, capturing the immersion right after a match, with facial scars and finger taping adding a rough atmosphere. In the photo, Jooheon wears a red leather jumpsuit, stands at the center of the ring with a microphone draped around his neck, and stares into the camera, projecting a strong presence. Visually expressing the meaning of the album title, the 光 on the carpet intersects with the 狂 beyond it, drawing attention. Through this concept photo, he hints that his musical direction and multi-layered charm will be further highlighted.
Track lineup and collaborations are boosting fans' expectations as well. The mini 2nd album features seven tracks, with the pre-release song Push (Feat. Rei of IVE) and the title track STING (Feat. Muhammad Ali) at its core. Notably, the title track STING features the legendary boxer Muhammad Ali, attracting attention for a cross-genre collaboration. Another track includes Tiger JK on Until My Head Reaches the Sky, and Jooheon personally participated in writing, composing, and producing all tracks on the album, drawing attention to his artistic leadership. After his solo debut, he aims to showcase his true self as an all-around artist on this mini album.
Release date is confirmed. Official announcements say the mini 2nd album 光(INSANITY) and the title track STING will be released on January 5 at 6:00 PM (KST) across all online music sites. Cover content and tracklist images have been released, with the tracklist visuals designed as a bold boxing-match timetable, hinting at the album's narrative. Reactions to the pre-release track Push have been strong. Featuring Rei of IVE, the track delivers a delicate, R&B-based emotional line that resonates with listeners and has entered the Melon HOT100 chart, as well as the iTunes Top Songs charts in 15 regions, including the United States and Japan. The success of Push is heightening expectations for the new album.
Jooheon's musical versatility is also evident in the album's sequencing. His previous solo debut saw him producing all tracks, and this mini album credits him for all tracks as well, underscoring his musical responsibility. The core of the title track STING, with Muhammad Ali as a featured artist, is expected to blend traditional hip-hop and funk with a New England power vibe. The track lineup, featuring artists and Jooheon's lead involvement in writing and production, is fueling fans' expectations for a sequence that showcases Jooheon's broadened musical range.
Meanwhile, promotional content for the new release is being rolled out in various formats. Behind-the-scenes videos capturing the chemistry with Rei related to Push have appeared across multiple platforms, along with content that captures a distinctive vibe from an outdoor recording studio. The album, colored by Jooheon's diverse palette and built on the synergy from his solo producing and collaboration experiences, is set to elevate MONSTA X's musical standing. As January 5 approaches, domestic and international fans' anticipation continues to rise.
