TWICE becomes first K-Pop girl group to win at AMA, cementing status as a top global group
May 27, 2026
TWICE, one of the world’s leading K-Pop girl groups, has won the Best Female K-Pop Artist at the American Music Awards AMA, becoming the first K-Pop girl group to lift the trophy at the US show. The 2026 American Music Awards ceremony took place on the 25th local time at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The victory is particularly meaningful because TWICE has been nominated for the AMA only for the second time in its history. The American Music Awards, founded in 1974 and decided by fan votes, underscore TWICE’s massive global fandom and broad popular appeal. Debuting 12 years ago, TWICE is currently proving its global popularity through its largest world tour to date, titled <THIS IS FOR>. Since kicking off in Incheon last July, the group has played 78 shows in 43 cities. In North America, the tour has covered 20 cities and 35 shows, drawing about 550,000 attendees, the most ever for a K-Pop girl group. In Japan, TWICE became the first overseas artist to headline the National Stadium in Tokyo, drawing 240,000 fans over three days. At the AMA ceremony, besides Best Female K-Pop Artist, it was announced that their fifth studio album Arirang, released in March, earned them their second Artist of the Year award. TWICE is currently on a European tour, having completed shows in Lisbon, Barcelona, Paris, Turin, Berlin, and Cologne, and will perform in Amsterdam on the 30th and 31st to meet local fans.
