2026년 3월 19일
Five members who started out in girl groups reunite to debut again as the five-member band LATENCY. On the afternoon of the 18th, at the Shocking K-Pop Center in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, guitarist 지지원, drummer 현진, keyboardist 하은, bassist 세미, and guitarist 희연 attended the debut mini-album 'LATE O’CLOCK' release showcase and spoke in unison about their resolve for a fresh start. The album comprises five tracks, including the pre-release single '사랑이었는데', and the title track is also named 'LATENCY', clearly revealing the band's identity and message. The album will be released at 6:00 PM on various online music platforms on the 18th.
Jiwon said, 'Because we started with a shared musical dream, we didn’t want to disappoint the public, so we practiced very hard. Today is the time when that effort is proven.' The members have pursued their own paths since their girl-group days, and both excitement and apprehension accompany this second challenge. Hyunjin explained that when she first tried playing drums, memories from ten years ago resurfaced, and she willingly joined. Hee-yeon, a classically trained guitarist, said she took on a coaching role in this band to guide the beginners.
Semi explained that the name LATENCY was chosen with the hope that the public would remember the group, and Ha-eun added that releasing the album to the world is an emotional moment; there is responsibility and pressure, but they will prove themselves with a learning mindset. Jiwon emphasized that LATENCY is a band where all vocalists can carry a variety of vocal colors. One of their clear goals is a music video with a moving, polished finish. Hyunjin said the music video feels like watching a movie, and she noted that the director's input was reflected a lot.
LATENCY also emphasizes that they are translating the narrative of 'LATE O’CLOCK' into music. Along with the sense of time implied by the group’s name, the members have woven stories of different periods they have lived into the songs. Ha-eun stated that the reason for joining a band rather than a girl group is significant, and that with musical friends so full of passion, the synergy should be powerful. Jiwon added that there is no other path but to prove themselves through practice, and they will turn worry and attention into something positive to deliver a better stage.
LATENCY aims to perform on a variety of music stages beyond a mere re-debut. Ha-eun mentioned global stages such as the Seoul Jazz Festival or Coachella, and the members hope to spread the message 'we can do it' through interaction with fans. Among the five tracks, including Malibu, all emphasize the harmony between performance and vocals, underscoring the band's all-vocal identity. Through this showcase, LATENCY clearly stated their intent to share their music with the public, even if delays occur. LATENCY's debut album 'LATE O’CLOCK' will be available on music sites after 6:00 PM today (the 18th). Fans are watching how the girl-group alumni band's journey unfolds on stage with the LATENCY title track and five tracks including Malibu, and LATENCY will write their musical time anew on larger stages starting from this event.
