YENA will release a Korean-language remake of Japanese singer Ai Otsuka’s 'Sakuranbo' on November 17 at 6 PM KST, bringing her own vocal style to the upbeat song.
According to her agency, YH Entertainment, the release is part of the 'J-POP REMAKE' project, which presents new interpretations of Japanese songs through Korean artists.
Teaser images shared by SHgold Networks introduce a bright, playful visual direction. The first image features a glass filled with cherries against a pink-toned background, connecting the imagery to the song’s title.
A second teaser combines the text 'SAKURANBO' with a design reminiscent of Japanese animation. A mobile phone with a magical-girl-inspired appearance adds to the nostalgic visual theme.
Ai Otsuka originally released 'Sakuranbo' in 2003. Known for its lively melody and memorable chorus, the song has remained recognizable long after its release. YENA’s version arrives approximately 23 years later.
YH Entertainment said YENA’s interpretation would retain the original song’s appeal while adding her own musical personality. The Korean-language version will pair the familiar upbeat mood with her distinctive vocals.
YENA has continued her music activities with the recent digital single 'Dime Girl (feat. nowimyoung).' Alongside her releases, she has worked on campaigns for alcoholic beverages, games, wireless earbuds and skincare brands, and served as a muse for a colored contact lens brand.
Her upcoming remake adds a Japanese pop favorite to those activities. YENA’s Korean-language version of 'Sakuranbo' will be available on music platforms on November 17 at 6 PM KST.
