Lima has unveiled a temporary “BTS Avenue” to celebrate BTS’s first concerts in Peru. Landmarks lit in purple, fountain shows and fan-led conservation and support projects are adding to the welcome across the capital.
According to BIGHIT MUSIC, BTS will perform at Lima’s Estadio San Marcos on October 7, 9 and 10, local time, as part of their “ARIRANG” world tour. These are their first concerts in Peru since debuting in 2013. Star News reported that all three shows sold out.
Lima’s Santiago de Surco district temporarily renamed Sacramento Street “Avenida BTS” for October 5–11, installing signs to mark the occasion. The street name offers a special tribute to the group’s first visit.
Major landmarks are joining the purple welcome. The Arco Morisco in Surco’s Friendship Park was illuminated in BTS’s signature purple on October 5 and will host a daily light show dedicated to the group through October 11. During the same period, the fountain park’s Fantasy Fountain is hosting a BTS-themed event featuring music, lights and a water screen.
Fan-organized projects are also drawing attention. According to a report by Peruvian weekly Caretas cited by Star News, Peruvian ARMY participated in the March 31 launch of the “One Million Trees for the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu” campaign, planting around 2,000 native trees. The resulting woodland was named “BTS Forest.” Peru’s National Service of Natural Protected Areas also highlighted the fans’ conservation work in a press release.
Star News reported that fans are preparing a free drone show for BTS over Lima’s Costa Verde waterfront at 8 p.m. on October 8. According to Spanish news agency EFE, cited in the article, 150 drones will form images including the BTS logo. Fans also plan to use phone lights by seating section during a designated song to display the red and white of Peru’s flag. In the weeks leading up to the concerts, the fan club worked with local authorities and museums on “ROAD TO 7,” a program spanning food, art, the environment and education.
The visit is also attracting interest in culture and tourism. Peru’s official tourism website, Peru Travel, highlighted the Lima concerts as an opportunity to showcase the country’s cuisine, culture and natural scenery. Concert visitors are expected to explore Lima’s history and sights, potentially extending their trips to destinations such as Paracas and Machu Picchu.
Before Lima, BTS opened their South American tour at Bogotá’s Estadio El Campín in Colombia on October 2–3, performing for around 100,000 fans over two nights. Rolling Stone en Español described the Bogotá shows as “the concert an entire generation had been waiting for most,” saying BTS “met expectations and, at many moments, exceeded them.” The South American run now continues amid Lima’s purple celebrations.
