BamingTiger released the lead single '집으로' on April 28, revealing the direction of their second full-length album Gongbu. The track blends psychedelic and retro band textures with the sentiments of Korea and East Asia, and stands out for reinterpreting the familiar space of 'home' from each member’s perspective. Core members including bj Wonjin, Sogeum, Mudd the Student, Lee Suho, and Sanyan participated, and the music itself is seen as the first key foreshadowing Gongbu’s direction for the second album. The single release also marks the formal unfolding of the album’s worldview.
Gongbu is planned as a project where sound design, visuals, identity, music-video direction, and live performance are coherently connected within one worldview, rather than merely an album, according to media coverage. Centered on the fictional laboratory Gongbu Korea, the narrative follows experimental technologies observing and recording human dreams and the unconscious. The album cover features the main building of Jeju University, designed by modern Korean architect Kim Joong-up, which has since been demolished, reinterpreted within the worldview as Gongbu Korea’s research institute to create a visual focal point. Music and visuals intertwine like a dataset to build a distinctive identity. The music video is presented in a black-comedy format inspired by the traditional wedding Hamjinabi, and was co-directed by BamingTiger members Janki and Sanyan. The video, set against the dream of test subject Sogeum, visually embodies the album’s core keyword: 'dream'.
When Gongbu is released on May 19, BamingTiger plans to broaden this project by linking music and visuals into a single worldview. The lead single, which for the first time reveals the starting space and characters of the worldview, has already drawn strong reactions from fans and heightened anticipation for future activities. According to Gongbu’s blueprint, the album centers on the narrative of observing and recording dreams and the unconscious, with experimental sound design and visual direction expected to be further enhanced. BamingTiger’s approach is anticipated to cross borders with innovative musical experimentation and an original worldview, both domestically and internationally.
