Psy's iconic hit song 'Gangnam Style' has set a new milestone in K-Pop history, surpassing 6 billion views on YouTube 14 years after its release. His agency, P Nation, officially announced on the 20th that the MV, uploaded to YouTube on July 15, 2012, crossed the 6 billion view mark on the 17th. This achievement adds another 1 billion views just 2 years and 7 months after it reached 5 billion views on December 30, 2023, marking the first time a K-Pop artist's music video has achieved 6 billion views on the platform.
'Gangnam Style' was the first music video in YouTube history to surpass 1 billion views in December 2012, and it also proved its global popularity by holding the 2nd spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for seven consecutive weeks. At a time when K-Pop was considered a niche market in the pop industry, it is recognized as the starting point that sparked a K-Pop craze worldwide, demonstrating its enduring appeal across borders and generations.
To commemorate this record, Psy held a special event at the 'Psy Himmup Show SUMMERSWAG2026' concert venue in Gwacheon on the 18th. Wearing the same sky-blue jacket and black bowtie he wore at the time, Psy took the stage and told the audience, 'I will upload a thank-you video for 6 billion views on YouTube,' earning cheers from fans. Meanwhile, Psy continues to build special memories with fans through his annual summer brand concert, 'Psy Himmup Show,' which features a total of 14 performances across 9 cities nationwide.
